What makes an AI answer worth trusting?
Source quality, access rules, and honest uncertainty matter as much as a fluent response.

Before choosing a model, understand the task, the person doing it, and the decision that follows.
The best starting point is a task someone already needs to complete. Follow it from the first request to the final result. Notice where information is copied, where people wait, and where judgment matters. A workflow map often reveals that the most valuable AI feature is a small, well-placed step rather than an autonomous system.
A summary, classification, or prediction has to support a next action. Specify who will use the output, what they need to know, and what makes the output acceptable. For document intake, that could mean complete fields with source references. For a knowledge assistant, it could mean an answer supported by current guidance.
Every workflow includes incomplete inputs and unusual cases. Decide what the system should do when information is missing, evidence conflicts, or an action falls outside its permissions. A clear review queue and a useful explanation can be more valuable than another attempt to guess.
Start with a bounded task, representative inputs, and an owner who can judge the results. Compare against the current process and review errors in context. The purpose of a pilot is to establish whether the system helps people complete the work, and to learn what must change before it takes on a larger role.
